Hi,
I'm Jack Wright of Wright's Saddlery. I founded my
business in 1978.
Our
Saddle Shop was originally located in Pendleton,
Oregon but for the past 16 years it has been at our
small ranch
near Council, Idaho. We just moved to our new location
in Council so stop by if you are in the area and
check out our goodies! Click here to see more pictures
of our new Shop.

I
have worked with leather since I was about 14, always trying
to improve my skills through practice, trial and error,
and mentors already skilled in the trade. I was privately
tutored in the art of saddle making by Tom Hendrickson,
a former instructor at a Saddle Making School in Eugene,
Oregon.
I
would also like to give credit to Severe Brothers
Saddlery in Pendleton who were willing to
help with advice and ideas from time to time. Randy and
Duff are good friends and I will always be grateful for
their help and inspiration.
Also
another person who was a big help was Rod Maness who began
his career with Hamley and Co.,
then later worked with Severe Brothers until
he retired. After he returned, he used to come by my shop
and help me fine-tune my skills. I have a lot of admiration
and respect for some of these old-time craftsmen.
We
had a mobile saddle shop too, that we traveled with for
several years. We had a lot of fun and met a lot of nice
people. At that time, we mostly attended rodeos, cuttings,
horse shows, and a few other major horse events. Our favorite
place to go was the Sun Circuit Quarter Horse Show in
Scottsdale, Arizona and the N.F.R. in Las Vegas,
Nevada.

I
have saddles in Canada, Germany, and all over the USA.
Some of the folks we have made saddles for include several
professional cutting and roping horse trainers, a Pendleton
Roundup Queen, Miss Rodeo Oregon 1984, and I
made several of the trophy saddles for the Pendleton
Roundup when I lived there.
My
wife and I have been around the ranching way of life most
of our lives. We have both participated in rodeos, ropings,
and about any other activity you can do horseback. Now,
when time allows, we enjoy horse pack trips up in the high
country.
Happy
Trails, Friends,
Jack
